EBC double Award winner at the Cecobois Awards of Excellence 2019

prizes & rewards

By Johanne Laurin 26 February 2019

We are pleased to announce that EBC received two awards during the Cecobois Awards of Excellence 2019 Gala occasion held on February 21 at the Palais Montcalm before an audience of nearly 300.

This 6th annual celebration of Québec expertise in wood construction rewarded EBC with awards in two categories:

Origine condos
Category – Multi-residential building

This bold record-setting thirteen-storey structure is the tallest 100% wood construction building in eastern North America. Origine has not only changed the construction landscape in Québec with this landmark, groundbreaking project, but has significantly advanced the use of wood in Canada’s high rise buildings.

The building’s large-scale fire-resistance, lateral strength and soundproofing tests are but a few of the elements that testify to the engineering skills involved. They have paved the way to changes in the Building Code and led to the publication of the Guide for Mass Timber Buildings of up to 12 Storeys by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec.

CLSC Naskapi
Category – Lightweight framing

Forged out of the North’s challenges and limitations, the project pays great respect to the climate. It takes advantage of the range of possible formal and structural variations provided by the prefabricated wood light framework system.

This project’s complex form derived from a climatic wind study demonstrates an achievement that adapts beautifully to its geography.

Congratulations to everyone who worked directly or indirectly on these winning projects.
