On November 12th, Nicolas Laliberté, Vice-President Health, Safety and Sustainable Development at EBC, spoke at the Conseil du Patronat du Québec’s OHS Strategic Forum. Alongside Anne-Frédérique Bourret and Laurence Bourgeois-Hatto, Partners at the legal firm Langlois Avocats, he presented the topic: “Climate change: legal aspects and practical considerations”. His intervention highlighted the challenges and opportunities when adapting practical occupational health and safety (OHS) policies in the face of climate change. EBC’s didn’t stop at sharing our leading expertise in OHS, we also highlighted the need to proactively position ourselves in the face of these emerging issues. As climate change impacts are increasingly felt on working conditions, our ability to anticipate, adapt and integrate these new realities into our practices is becoming a differentiating factor.
Issues that affect us directly
A regulatory framework requires companies to protect the health and safety of their employees, but emerging climate risks, such as heat waves, wildfires and floods, are challenging current practices. An increase in extreme heat requires adapting work schedules and prevention measures. Wildfires require rigorous monitoring and evacuation protocols, while floods call for strengthening infrastructure resilience. Participating in this collective reflection reminds us that tomorrow’s successful companies will adapt their OHS strategies today to protect their teams and safeguard the continuity of their operations.
Process Review: An Opportunity to Seize
In addition to physical risks, legal obligations are evolving with new environmental requirements, demanding clear and verifiable declarations from companies. Upgraded regulations require increased vigilance for activities in sensitive areas, including a compliance process review. By integrating these changes, EBC decreases risks while positioning itself as a responsible and forthright leader in its sector.
Strategic objectives: partnerships and sharing of expertise
EBC’s participation in this type of event is part of our strategic objectives aimed at:
Strengthening our OHS strategies in the face of climate risks.
Developing strategic partnerships with regulatory and risk management experts.
Positioning our company as an innovative and responsible player with our partners and customers.
