EBC Awarded Six Mile Dam and Back Channel Dam Rehabilitation Project!

New mandates

By Caroline Robert 12 June 2024

EBC has been selected by Maple Reinders Constructors Ltd. to lead the complete replacement of the Six Mile Lake Dam and rehabilitation of the nearby Blind Dam on the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada.

This exciting project involves the demolition and reconstruction of the Main Dam, incorporating an increase in its capacity and a standardized sluice width. We’ll also be addressing deficiencies identified in the 2015 Dam Safety Review by rehabilitating the Back Channel Dam. The project scope includes construction of temporary cofferdams and designated areas for laydown and project staging.

Enhancing Functionality and Longevity

The upgraded Six Mile Lake Dam will boast a larger capacity and a standardized sluice width, improving water flow management. This critical project will ensure the continued functionality of both dams for generations to next, extending their service life by a minimum of 75 years (Six Mile Lake Dam) and 50 years (Blind Dam).

Environmental Responsibility and Historical Preservation

EBC is committed to delivering this project with the utmost respect for the environment. The project site’s ecological sensitivity is a top priority, and we’ll be implementing strict environmental practices following a comprehensive Site Specific Environmental Management Plan developed by EBC and its consultants.

Furthermore, EBC will collaborate closely with Parks Canada to identify and safeguard any historical artifacts that may be uncovered during construction near the Six Mile Lake Dam.

We are committed to fostering meaningful collaboration with First Nations communities throughout the project execution phase. This project presents a unique opportunity to combine essential infrastructure upgrades with environmental responsibility and historical preservation. The EBC team is excited to contribute to the continued integrity of the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site!
