Since January 2024, EBC has been participating in a major project to develop the new Northvolt North American manufacturing site, based in Saint-Basile-le-Grand! This project is an important step towards producing the world’s greenest batteries and we are proud contributors to this endeavor.
A strong partnership for sustainable success
EBC is pleased to have partnered with Broccolini in this strong alliance selected by Northvolt. Together, the Broccolini+EBC consortium brings complementary expertise in development, design-build, and civil engineering. This collaboration guarantees a broad capacity to manage services and deliverables required for this innovative project.
Our role: Building sustainable foundations
Our collaboration for this project is comprehensive and multidimensional. It includes services and infrastructure commitments to oversee the smooth construction and operation of this new site. We are working closely with Northvolt to deliver a thorough three-part project:
- Health, Safety and Environment: the Broccolini+EBC consortium has been identified as the on-site project manager. As such, we are required to implement EBC’s HSE framework program on all construction activities across the entire site throughout the project’s lifecycle. We focus on creating a culture of safety and efficiency that goes beyond compliance and ensures the well-being of everyone on site.
- Seamless Site Logistics: Our team oversees site logistics, overseeing the smooth coordination of all on-site activities from the initial construction phase through to 2028. This includes tasks such as winter services, temporary and final facilities, roads, temporary installations, overall site coordination plans, waste management and overall site safety.
- Sustainable Infrastructure Development and Master planning: EBC brings its expertise to the civil infrastructure project and its masterplan. We will meticulously plan, design, and participate in the procurement and construction of temporary and permanent infrastructures on site. Our goal is to build sustainable foundations that align with Northvolt’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. This includes everything from initial preparatory works to road completion, infrastructures, and key service buildings, all designed to support the construction phase and ensure a smooth transition to the complex’s operational phase.
While this project presents a tremendous opportunity, it also presents exciting challenges. Building a state-of-the-art battery manufacturing plant requires cutting-edge expertise in safety, biodiversity protection and sustainable construction. Additionally, it also requires rapid execution in compliance with strict environmental standards, the coordination of the project’s multiple elements and simultaneous construction management requires rigorous administration and careful planning.
